Mohan – Luang Prabang – Vang Vieng – Vientiane

On February 2, the convoy headed south all the way and successfully entered Laos through Mohan Port. With excellent driving skills and excellent quality of continuous combat, we left Mohan at 3:00 p.m., arrived in Luang Prabang that night, and camped in the courtyard of Xishuangbanna Hotel, where the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Luang Prabang is located. The hotel provides camping, bathing, and water refilling services, all of which are free.

On the first morning of entering Laos, we came to the most famous Guanxi Waterfall in Luang Prabang. Dense forests, clear mountain springs, and waterfalls of different sizes and heights form a unique beauty. Next to the main waterfall, there is a tree with its branches stretched out, about 3 meters above the water surface, forming a natural diving platform. Tourists from all over the world show their skills in various postures. Immediately afterwards, we came to Xiaoguanxi, where the bars are hidden in the dense jungle, which is quite distinctive. The close contact with baby elephants is the favorite of children, while the boar pork with skin, roasted by charcoal fire, and served with ice-cold Lao beer is the purpose of adults.

Say goodbye to Luang Prabang and head to Vang Vieng. Although the distance is only 180 kilometers, the mountain road is very steep and tortuous, and one of them has a continuous downhill, which puts the driver and braking system of each car to the test. Arrived in Vang Vieng, it was already evening, camping in a huge square, surrounded by many hotels, bathing is very convenient, and there is also a supply of boiling water.

Vang Vieng is a city surrounded by mountains and rivers, where a close contact with water is essential. The Nansong River passing through the city is undoubtedly the best choice for rafting. So the next day we came to Songjiang, Henan, Wanrong’s mother. The water of Nansong River is clear, the current is neither slow nor urgent, and the average depth is only up to an adult’s knee, which is very suitable for rafting. A group of 16 people from the club chased each other on the Nansong River in 8 canoes and embarked on a two-hour rafting trip.

Vientiane is worthy of being the capital. The National Temple Phaluang Temple, the Arc de Triomphe, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Hindu Temple, the shooting range, the bar, the massage parlor… We drove through them one by one in our RV.

Savan – Bassai – Angkor

After passing through Savan and Basak, on February 9th we came to Angkor Wat in Cambodia, the world-famous ancient civilization site, with a pious and pilgrimage attitude. Walking through the pagodas, no matter where you are, you will find smiling eyes watching your every move. There are 216 Buddha faces, some of which are incomplete, and their smiles are mixed with a touch of sadness; some of them are eroded and mottled by wind and rain, telling the past like smoke; Infinity…Walking in the Bayon Temple, no matter where you look at, you can see “knowing and kind” smiles. It is a constant expression of peace and hope that has gone through thousands of years of prosperity and ups and downs. It can give Man has infinite power, which is a mysterious force that travels through time and space and all things, which is shocking and moving.

On February 10th, Calvin’s Laos-Cambodia caravan tour began to return. This day started with the almsgiving by the Mekong River in Luang Prabang. When we arrived at the scene at 5:30 in the morning, there were already many people sitting quietly on the side of the road, lined up for hundreds of meters. All kinds of food, mainly glutinous rice, are placed in front of everyone, waiting for the arrival of the monks. At six o’clock, the monks lined up from one end of the street with the temple as the unit. Each person had a food container hanging diagonally on his body, and the people distributed the food they brought to each monk passing by. The giver kneels and sits by the side of the road, calm, pious, and happy in his heart, while the recipient of the alms is calm, natural, neither humble nor overbearing. About half an hour before and after, people felt the power of religion firsthand.

In addition to sightseeing, visiting temples and historical sites, the riders also inspected a number of investment projects; discussed the possibility and necessity of building campsites; participated in the charity activities on the Mekong River; through field trips, we witnessed It shows the backward, simple and primitive aspects of Laos and Cambodia, and also allows us to see their piety and respect for Buddhism, as well as the peace and friendliness brought about by it. No need for chemical fertilizers to increase production, no need for hormones to stimulate the economy, this is Laos! From the local overseas Chinese, we also learned about the opportunities and development that China’s “One Belt, One Road” policy has brought to Laos. May the friendship between China and Laos last forever!
